We all have desires—the want to have certain things in our lives, whether it be a career, a relationship, or just a more positive outlook. A lot of us struggle to obtain our desires though, and this often stems from a loss of focus, motivation, or reasoning. And, while there are a lot of steps to manifesting our desires, or turning our desires into reality, they are certainly doable when we put in the necessary work.

Below are the nine steps to manifesting the life you want with descriptions of how to accomplish each one.

1. Set Your Intentions

The first thing you need to do when you’re looking into manifesting your desires is actually figure out what your desires are. You will need to be specific and clear, and you will need to avoid generalized language. For example, instead of thinking you desire love, think of what type of love you really desire, whether it be close friends, a romantic partner, or stronger bonds within your family.

2. Write Your Intentions Down

Perhaps the most important step in manifestation is writing your intentions down on paper. When you write an intention, make sure you state what you want clearly and state what you want as an attainable goal. Again, be specific, and consider attaching a time frame to your goal. For example, if your desire is related to making new friends, consider writing a goal along the lines of, “I want to make three new friends within six months.”

3. Discover Your Reasons

After writing down the goals you want to obtain in your life, be sure to additionally write down your reasoning for having those goals. Think of what achieving these goals will do for your life and your personal growth. For example, in regards to the above goal of making new friends, perhaps a good reason for having the goal is that it may lead to deeper connections with others or lead you to feel happier in your social life.

Whenever you sit down to discover your reasons, watch out for any unjust reasons that may come up. Often, these come with some negative feelings attached. Remember, if you are chasing dreams because you believe they will make you more likable to others, or you believe they will make you superior to others, then these dreams are not backed up by good reasons.

4. Believe in Your Dreams and Have Faith

Another important step in manifestation is believing that you can actually obtain your goals and reach your dreams. This is also known as the law of attraction, or the law that states good things come to those who believe they will come. As also stated by the law of attraction, those who don’t believe that they can reach their goals will not reach their goals. That being said, if you’d like to reach your goals, you must believe that you really can reach them.

Aside from believing and trusting in the law of attraction, it helps to have faith in the universe and faith that you will reach your goals when you are meant to reach them. If you don’t have this faith in your life, you may become resentful or angry with yourself or others if you don’t reach your goals right away. Any resentment or negative feelings can then hinder your ability to put in the effort needed to reach your goals when you are meant to reach them.

5. Take Action on Your Dreams

Of course, it would be wonderful if everything we wanted just fell in our laps, but this is not how anyone reaches their goals. In order to turn our intentions into reality, we have to make and take steps to obtain the goals that we write down. There are different methods of taking action on goals, too, but one tried and true way is by creating simple daily to-do lists. For example, for those who want to make new friends, you could make a list with tasks such as signing up for local clubs or texting current friends to check in with them.

6. Create Daily Habits

Alongside taking action to accomplish your goals, you can put some simple daily habits into practice to keep yourself motivated and to remind yourself of what your goals are.

Use a Journal

Using a journal that you write in daily can help you in manifesting your dreams. You can use a regular notebook or an electronic document as your journal so long as you dedicate the journal to writing about the feelings you have around your goals. Consider making daily entries about your progress in reaching your goals or about the future steps you believe you can take to reach those goals.

Use Affirmations

Positive affirmations are a great way to give yourself a positive energy and attitude. You can come up with your own affirmations or find some online that you like, but be sure to repeat these affirmations to yourself a couple of times a day to promote the manifestation of the life you want.

Use Vision Boards

Consider creating vision boards, or visual collections of positive images and quotes, to help yourself in manifesting what you want. You can make a traditional vision board with visuals that you cut out of magazines or newspapers, or you can make a digital board on a site such as Pintrest.

7. Be Patient

After you have taken action daily to bring yourself closer to your goals, you have to remember to be patient and let the manifesting of your goals come to you. Remember, the rules of attraction state that good things come to those who believe they will come, so you have to let the attraction happen. Sometimes, this attraction takes days, weeks, or even months to come to fruition, so you need to have patience while waiting for manifestation.

8. Track Your Progress

In the midst of your manifesting, you may forget to stop and acknowledge the progress you have been making. As a part of your daily habits, consider adding a moment to pause and note the wins, either large or small, that you accomplished during the day. You can also treat yourself to celebrate these wins every once in a while, and this will help you maintain a positive energy as you continue to work toward getting the life you want.

9. Keep a Positive Attitude

Finally, be sure to keep gratitude in your life as you work toward your goals, and this will help you keep a positive attitude while working toward future goals. Make a list of the things you are thankful for, and give yourself the chance to enjoy all the goals you have already accomplished.

Manifesting our desires can be difficult, but it’s much easier to do when you break things down into small steps. Above all, remember that it is possible to achieve the life you want, and never let a negative energy stop you.
